After your area has gone live for FTTN (VDSL) you have 18 months to transfer both phone and internet services onto the NBN platform. If you just switch your broadband in the beginning VDSL filters/splitters will be required in the interim. Once your phone service is transferred, you will plug your phone handset into your VDSL modem for a dial tone, so splitters and filters will no longer be required. We currently stock both VDSL/ADSL central splitters. Please contact us if required.
If you have multiple telephone outlets in your premises and would like to keep them functioning, wiring modifications will need to be done. A new dedicated cable (cat5/cat6) will need to be installed from your building entry point to your modem location. Installing this new cable minimizes any problems caused by current old sub-standard cabling you may already have. Back-feeding of the VoiP voice service from your modem will be sent back on your houses existing internal wiring to all your outlets. Unlike the current Telstra network where your telephones will still work in a blackout, if your modem is off then no phones will work.
